Between the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020, I had the good fortune to meet the celebrated artist Peter Schuyff. I was happy to work with him on the digital workflow for this impressive 33-meter-high mural in Bologna.
The mural is a tribute to the renowned Italian painter Giorgio Morandi. Created for Scaramouche Gallery in collaboration with Studio LOBO, and myself, it’s located at Via Bartolomeo Passarotti, 26, in the heart of Bologna. This piece serves as a homage to Morandi, whose still-life paintings are famous for their calm, contemplative arrangements and muted color schemes. His work often focused on simple household objects, like bottles and jars, placed in soft light to create a sense of quiet beauty and timelessness.
Peter Schuyff’s mural celebrates Morandi while also bringing his own distinct style into the work. Known for his use of geometric abstraction, Schuyff has reinterpreted Morandi’s focus on form, light, and shadow in a fresh way, bridging the past and the present.
